Position Details: 


Essential Functions, Scope:

  • The focus of the High School Assistant Principal is to function as an educational leader.  To assist the High School Principal with administrative duties pertaining to the planning, organization, oversight and leadership of programs, policies, procedures, and services within the high school  assigned by the Principal.

Training/Education Requirements:

  • Shall hold a Master’s Degree in educational leadership or related field and hold or be eligible to hold Michigan administrative certification. 
  • Preparation shall include emphasis on the high school
  • A minimum of four years of classroom teaching experience is preferred


  Student Achievement:

  • Serve the faculty as an instructional leader.
  • Assist the principal with staff selection, evaluations and teacher assignments.
  • Serve as the building representative to various professional organizations affiliated with the school.
  • Design, develop and implement news programs and policies necessary for continuing school improvement.
  • Act as building coordinator for standardized and college entrance testing.
  • Audit senior graduation requirements.

  Customer Service/Communication:

  • Assist the building Principal in the performance of his/her duties.
  • Serve as an educational resource for the faculty regarding curricular and legislative issues.
  • Perform such tasks and assume such responsibilities as the Principal may assign.
  • Assist in the development, updating and maintenance of the Student Handbook.
  • Assist in the supervision of the building office clerical staff and security personnel
  • Organize class meetings, other assemblies and honor convocations.
  • Serve as a resource person for anyone seeking information regarding school district policies and procedures.
  • Administer system of communication to inform parents/guardians of general school information, district information, and student behavior and attendance.

  Safe and Secure Environment for Learning:

  • Administer the laws, regulations and district policies pertaining to student attendance.
  • Administer the student discipline policies and procedures in accordance with state and district legal guidelines.
  • Assist in monitoring the maintenance, usage and security of buildings and grounds.
