Position Details: 

Accounting Assistant

The successful candidate: 

  • The Accounting Assistant will be required to perform all of the duties of a Bookkeeper
  • Work with other Wayne RESA staff and Administrators in the budget development process for new and continuing grants and projects
  • Provide technical support related to reporting and fiscal compliance to local districts and charter schools who are grant sub-recipients
  • Develop and maintain proficiency in state grant reporting and cash management systems
  • Provide appropriate computations to support financial allocations based on predetermined formulas
  • Perform payroll and attendance processing, calculations and verification functions, as assigned
  • Provide general ledger accounting support in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and the Michigan Public School Accounting Manual, budget transfers, journal entries and related financial data into the computer system to maintain the accuracy of the accounts supported by programs operated at/through Wayne RESA
  • Prepares tax and retirement reports and year end W2’s, as assigned
  • Maintains and loads accurate attendance records, as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned 


Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting; or
  • Associate Degree in Accounting with three (3) years of experience working in accounting related positions; or
  • Five (5) years working in a similar position
  • Significant experience with electronic/computerized financial accounting systems including all general ledger, accounts payable and maintenance functions
  • Significant experience using Excel or similar spreadsheet software

Skills and Training

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations
  • Knowledge of computer software applications (word processing, spreadsheets, etc.)
  • Experience with payroll preferred

  • Tested Skills (Accounting Assistant Test, Bookkeeper Test, Intermediate Excel, Bank Reconciliation, Basic Math)

Compensation:   Current Local 1882, Wayne RESA Chapter Salary - Grade 8, 12-month position ($39,614 - $53,664) and a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including health/dental/vision/life and long-term disability insurance. Generous time off including 19 paid holidays, sick and personal business days.
